What was the first race you ever ran? (Any distance) Funfest Midnight 5 miler

What was the first marathon you ever ran? What year did you run it? Did you have fun that day? '93 Marine Corps Marathon; kind of rough but enjoyed telling folks "yes I completed it!"

How long have you been a runner and why did you start running? Off and on since mid 80s; conditioning class in college started it and enjoyed running off and on ever since

Why did you decide to become a Maniac? Or what inspired you? Randy Graves (maniac 788) told me about it and thought it sounded like a good group to join!
Of all the races out there in this world, which one would you most like to run? Big Sur, or any marathon in Ireland or Scotland

If you could run a marathon / ultra accompanied by anyone either living or deceased, who would you choose and why? my wife, any of my 3 sons; because I love them and want to share that kind of accomplishment with them

What was you most memorable marathon and why? 95 San Francisco-got to see all the touristy spots in one little 5 hr run or 24 the Hardway (6 hr ultra)-it was my first Ultra, was well organized and I finished strong

If someone asked you to pick a race for him or her that they could run a PR at, which race would you suggest? OKC Memorial Marathon; well supported by aid stations and crowd
What was the furthest you’ve ever traveled for a race? Northern Virginia to San Francisco (2800 miles?)

Do any of your non-running friends or family members thing that you’re crazy for running as much as you do? What are some of their comments to you? This is a trick question. I thought they all did. "you are gonna wear out your knees", "I already knew you were a maniac", "you run how far?","who's chasing you?"

If personal obligations or finances were not an issue, how many marathons would you run in one year?

Do you wear your race t-shirts? What do you do with the ones you don’t wear? sometimes. hang in a closet w/ my dress shirts

If you could put on a marathon anywhere in the world, where would you have it? Ireland or Smoky Mountains

What is your favorite pre race meal? 2 scrambled eggs Post race meal? banana and a bagel

What is your energy gel of choice? Sport drink of choice? none; G2 grape

Which race would you never run again and why?

What was the most challenging race or combination of races you’ve ever done and why? Patriot Run Marathon; Starts at noon on 9/11 outside of Kansas City, run on an open track (dogs etc)

What is a typical training week like for you? How many miles do you run? Any cross training? M or Tues Yasso 800s (7-8miles); W or Thu 7-8 miles; Saturday 10-20

What kind of shoes do you train in? Do you race in a different shoe? lately Saucony and Brooks;no

What are your short-term running goals?Run at a level where I can increase mileage very easily for a marathon

What are your long-term running goals?4hr marathon, increase level on MM, qualify for Boston

Assuming you have time, what do you do for fun other than run marathons?Hang out with wife and my boys; read; computer and video games
