WILD THING SUMMER FLING MARATHON

2009 Results

What:      A wild marathon – sense of humor NECESSARY
When:     July 19, 2009, 7:30 a.m. start (No early start)
Where:    Lake Padden Park, South Entrance, Picnic Area
Cost:       Free (Donations Accepted-Proceeds to Whatcom Humane Society)

WHAT TO BRING:  A sense of humor, red lipstick, your favorite running dress, adventurous spirit and whatever other running items you might need to sustain yourself for 26.2 miles in July.

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED
:  Leopard print Keith Richards style headbands (must be worn on your first and last laps, no exceptions), water, Gatorade & other goodies.  Oh, and music!  Yep….Wild Thing will be on the turntable!

THE COURSE:  The run will be 10 laps (2.62 miles each) around Lake Padden on a gravel and dirt path (trail shoes not needed).  There will be one aid station every loop at the start/finish area, three restrooms on each 2.62 mile loop makes for a total of 30 restrooms on route!  Does any other marathon offer you that?

THE FUNYou will be required to wear the bandana on for your fist & last laps.  We hope you wouldn’t mind wearing a dress on the first lap but this won’t be required by all participants.  Race personnel will be required to “dress” however.  You will have to complete a “task” (think jumping jacks, push ups, singing, hula hoop, cartwheels, bug eating-oops, kidding on that one) upon finishing each lap of the lake (10 tasks in total) in order to receive a finishing time.   Don’t complete the task?  No time, and the run doesn’t count toward Marathon Maniac tally.  No exceptions.  Oh wait, if you don’t want to do a task you can pay $5 to the kitty!  If you wear a dress on the first lap we just might take 5 minutes off your finishing time.

PRIZES:  What prizes?

WHAT WE WON’T HAVE:  Timing chips, race clock (wrist watch will have to do), whining, shirts, medals, bandits, Boston qualifier, race certificates.  So please expect nothing.

ATTTENTION BANDITS
:  If you come and run bandit, you will not be given a finish time and the marathon will not count towards Maniac numbers.  We might also throw you in the lake or trip you on a rocky path. So be prepared…we are.
DIRECTIONS:  I-5 to Bellingham, follow sign to Lake Padden.

TO REGISTER:  This run will be capped at 50.  We will accept 15 on a wait list.  If you want to run you must email the address below with your first and last name, age, city & state and a 50 word essay as to why you want to run our marathon.  Nah…just kidding about the essay.   Maybe.  We know a few crazies so please sign up early.
