2009 Results
WILD THING SUMMER FLING MARATHON and ½ MARATHON!
What: A wild marathon OR ½ marathon – sense of humor NECESSARY
When: July 25, 2010, 8:00 a.m. start (No early start)
Where: Lake Padden Park, South Entrance, Picnic Area
Cost: By Donation - Proceeds to Whatcom Humane Society
WHAT TO BRING: Red lipstick, your most outlandish running dress (we know you have several for different occasions), adventurous spirit and whatever other running items you might need to sustain yourself for 26.2 miles in July.
WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED: Tasks, Water, Gatorade & other goodies. Oh, and music! Yep….Wild Thing will be on the turntable!
THE COURSE: The run will be 10 laps (2.62 miles each) or 5 laps around Lake Padden on a gravel and dirt path (trail shoes not needed). There will be one aid station every loop at the start/finish area, and three restrooms on each 2.62 mile loop.
THE FUN: Marathoners will be required to wear their dress for the fist two laps of the lake. No dress…no time. Second annual Wild thing, thus two loops mandatory. Next year three loops will be mandatory!
Half Marathoners will be required to wear their dress the entire way…yes, all 5 laps!
You will be required to complete a “task” (think jumping jacks, push ups, singing, hula hoop, cartwheels) upon finishing each lap of the lake in order to receive your finishing time. Don’t complete the task? No time! No exceptions.
PRIZES: What prizes? At our run each and everyone of you is considered a prize! We are blessed with your presence. HOWEVER…we are waiting with great anticipation to see if Fanatics or Maniacs out show each other in attendance. So…which of you two groups is the more adventurous???
WHAT WE WON’T HAVE: Timing chips, race clock (wrist watch will have to do), whining, shirts, medals, bandits, Boston qualifier, race certificates. So please expect nothing and boy will we deliver!
ATTTENTION BANDITS: Last year we had hundreds of bandits! This year, please consider yourself hereby warned: every bandit will be thrown in the lake!
DIRECTIONS: I-5 to Bellingham, follow signs to Lake Padden.
TO REGISTER: This run will be capped. Please register early. We will begin a wait list after we reach capacity. So….if you want to run and we haven’t yet scared you away, you must email the address below with your first and last name, age, city & state along with an idea for a task. You never know which tasks we might include so do use your imagination but also be careful!
